Permanent Residence
|
| Following completion of course requirements while studying in Australia, students eligible for one of the permanent residence visas below must have completed course requirements as the result of full-time study with full course loads over 4 semesters of equal duration in a minimum of 16 months. | |

You must lodge your permanent residence application within 6 months of completing course requirements to be eligible for the "work experience waiver" (note this does not mean 6 months from date of grant of qualification)
In addition to the above, you must meet the following basic criteria
- You must be under 45 years of age on date of application
- Your occupation must be listed on the Skilled Occupation List (SOL)
- You must have your qualifications assessed as suitable for migration by the relevant assessing authority
- You must have a high level of English (equivalent to a minimum 5 in each of the four bands of IELTS in a general test.

SKILLED INDEPENDENT OVERSEAS STUDENT |
POINTS REQUIRED: 120 Must satisfy the basic criteria above
Must nominate a 60 point occupation on the Skilled Occupations List or 50 point occupation if you have completed your Phd in Australia |

SKILLED AUSTRALIAN SPONSORED OVERSEAS STUDENT |
POINTS REQUIRED: 110 Must satisfy the basic criteria above
Your relative must be an Australian citizen/permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen who is your Parent, Child, Brother/Sister, Uncle/Aunt, Grandparent or First Cousin and who is usually resident in Australia.
An Assurance of Support must also be lodged prior to grant of your visa. The Assuror can be your sponsor or any other permanent resident/citizen of Australia or an eligible New Zealand citizen.
You must have a 60, 50 or 40 point occupation on the Skilled Occupations List. |

SKILLED- DESIGNATED AREA SPONSORED OVERSEAS STUDENT |
THIS CATEGORY IS NOT POINTS DRIVEN
However you do need to satisfy the basic criteria
Your relative must be an Australian citizen/permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen who is your Parent, Child, Brother/Sister, Uncle/Aunt, Grandparent or First Cousin who has been living in a designated area for 1 year at the time of lodgment of your visa application and (from 1 November 2005) is still residing in a designated area at the time of decision of your visa application.
An Assurance of Support must also be lodged prior to grant of your visa. The Assuror can be your sponsor or any other permanent resident/citizen of Australia or an eligible New Zealand citizen.
You must have a 60, 50 or 40 point occupation on the Skilled Occupations List.
It is anticipated that from 1st May 2006 the migration regulations will require the applicant for this type of visa to reside in the designated area for two years

SKILLED INDEPENDENT REGIONAL VISA. |
PROVISIONAL RESIDENCE VISA
POINTS REQUIRED: 110 Must satisfy the basic criteria above
Allowing you to remain in Australia for three years. You must live and work in a regional area. When you have lived in a regional area for two years and been employed (including self-employed)) for at least one year, you may be eligible to apply for permanent residence through a range of existing regional visas including
Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme State/Territory Nominated Independent (STNI) State/Territory Sponsored Business Owner
Participating State/Territory Governments include, New South Wales Northern Territory Queensland South Australia Tasmania Victoria
Your occupation needs to be an occupation in demand in the State/Territory your apply to. Your qualifications must be assessed by the relevant assessing authority and you need to apply to the State/Territory, in which you wish to reside, for sponsorship. | |
